The Annual Holidays Act (vuosilomalaki) sets out how employees accrue holiday and how holiday pay is calculated. The method depends, for example, on whether the employee is paid monthly or hourly. Holiday bonus is usually based on the collective agreement (TES).
Sick pay is governed by the Employment Contracts Act (työsopimuslaki), and many collective agreements provide longer paid periods than the law. The employer can claim reimbursement of sick pay from Kela (the Social Insurance Institution of Finland) when an illness continues for a longer time.
Final pay is paid when the employment ends. It includes pay for the last period, compensation for untaken holiday and any other amounts falling due.
