When the occupational safety and health authority (commonly known as AVI, the Regional State Administrative Agency) contacts your business, we explain what it requires and help you get contracts, working hours and pay records in order.
The occupational safety and health (työsuojelu) authority makes sure that employers comply with laws on workplace safety and employment, such as the Working Hours Act (työaikalaki), the Employment Contracts Act (työsopimuslaki) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (työturvallisuuslaki). In Finland, this has commonly been referred to as AVI occupational safety and health (AVI = aluehallintovirasto, the Regional State Administrative Agency).
The authority may ask an employer for an explanation, for example after an employee has been in touch or as part of an inspection campaign. The request has a deadline, and the reply usually includes documents such as employment contracts, work rosters and pay details.
