We help you choose a company form, prepare the start-up notification and complete the registrations. Your business is ready to start, with bookkeeping and invoicing in place from day one.
Starting a business begins with choosing a business form. In Finland, the most common forms are the sole trader (toiminimi, a private trader) and the limited company (osakeyhtiö, Oy). Your choice affects things such as taxation, liability for the business's debts and the amount of administration involved.
A business is registered by filing a start-up notification in the Business Information System (YTJ), which is maintained by the Finnish Patent and Registration Office (PRH) and the Finnish Tax Administration (Verohallinto). At the same time, you apply for the necessary entries in the Tax Administration's registers, such as the prepayment register (ennakkoperintärekisteri: customers do not withhold tax from a registered company's invoices) and the VAT register (arvonlisäverovelvollisten rekisteri: the company adds VAT to its sales and can deduct the VAT on its purchases).
Alongside registration, it is worth sorting out a bank account, insurance, bookkeeping and invoicing straight away, so that your first month runs without surprises.
